Founded in 1972 as Newbury Laboratories[1].
Acquired in 1978 by Data Recording Instrument (DRI)[2]. The same year DRI spun off part of its computer peripheral business into a new company called Data Recording Equipment.

In 1982, Newbury Labs and Data Recording Equipment were combined into a new company named Newbury Data Recording[2].
