It is a direct view storage tube ([[:Category:DVST|DVST]]) graphics terminal that operates like an [[wikipedia:Etch A Sketch|Etch A Sketch]] in that you can draw points, lines and characters on the screen, but once drawn you cannot selectively erase them.  Instead, you must erase the entire screen.  This is a consequence of the storage tube itself; images are drawn directly onto the tube and stored as a pattern of electric charge on the front of the tube.  As long as the tube is properly powered, the image remains visible until cleared.

The Tektronix 4010 terminal is an upper-case only graphics terminal introduced in May, 1972 at a price of $3,950.[1][2] The 4010-1 includes hardcopy circuitry that allows the stored image to be read out by the Tektronix 4610 hard copy unit.

It is a direct view storage tube (DVST) graphics terminal that operates like an Etch A Sketch in that you can draw points, lines and characters on the screen, but once drawn you cannot selectively erase them. Instead, you must erase the entire screen. This is a consequence of the storage tube itself; images are drawn directly onto the tube and stored as a pattern of electric charge on the front of the tube. As long as the tube is properly powered, the image remains visible until cleared.
