The CDC CC617 terminal was a special purpose terminal built for Ticketron ticketing services. The CC617-A variant contains firmware specifically for Ticketron ticket sales while the CC617-B variant contains generic firmware that bootstraps downloaded firmware for a particular application.
The hardware uses a card-cage design with 10 slots. In the CC617-A variant the cards are as follows:
- 2x +5 V switching power supply regulator cards
- 2 KB ROM card
- 2x 4 KB RAM card
- processor card
- STIC (special timing and interrupt control) card
- asynchronous interface card
- display/keyboard interface card
In the CC617-B variant the cards are as follows:
- 2x +5 switching power supply regulator cards
- optional program memory module card
- processor card
- STIC card
- asynchronous interface card
- optional modem card
- display/keyboard interface card
The keyboard does not use a QWERTY style layout and has special keys oriented towards ticket sales. A keyswitch on the keyboard has OFF, ON and MGT (management) positions to secure the terminal against unauthorized ticket sales. The cable connecting the keyboard to the terminal uses an 8-bit parallel connection for key codes and a 2-bit parallel connection for the state of the 3-position key switch, as well as power, ground and control signals.
